Before women come to Catalina House for Women to continue their journey in sobriety, inpatient treatment is a very useful type of treatment that teaches necessary skills to individuals seeking sobriety. The inpatient treatment process often starts with a medical detoxification to clear the system of toxins and harmful chemicals that can continue to be bothersome or cause obsessive thoughts during early sobriety. After a detox occurs, individuals should meet with an intake counselor at a drug treatment program to figure out the best course of action for each individual. Inpatient treatment programs can range in length of time and can last anywhere from two weeks to a few months. There are also longer-term inpatient programs for teenagers and people who are at a significant risk for relapse.
After the assessment begins, inpatient treatment programs for drug and alcohol differ greatly. Some programs are 12-step based and are very useful for individuals who believe that they will experience significant problems staying sober once the inpatient treatment process has been completed. 12-step program based treatment is very effective because after the inpatient treatment is completed individuals have a strong support system all over the country and in many other countries in the world. In this way people are able to stay accountable and continue to discuss issues or problems they are having with daily life and new sobriety.
Inpatient treatment can also be holistic incorporating more alternative methods of treatment such as massage, yoga, meditation and more. Treatment that involves individual and group counseling is also recommended so individuals have an opportunity to socialize and be honest with the other clients in their program. | |
