Intervention and Transportation Services

Intervention and transportation services are sometimes necessary when the individual seeking treatment is not yet ready to admit there is a problem or is on the fence about whether or not treatment is the right choice.  The main purpose of a drug intervention is to have the individual with an addiction problem admitted to treatment.  This service is often used in the case of adolescents whose parents feel they are out of control with their drug or alcohol use.  In these cases treatment is necessary but the problem is getting the individual to the actual residential treatment facility.  Individuals who are daily users of drugs or alcohol may not be able to think clearly enough to admit that they have a problem with substance abuse.

An intervention begins when family members or friends pick up the phone and contact an intervention specialist for help.  The intervention process begins with a pre-intervention consultation and follows with a pre-intervention meeting between the interventionist, family members and friends.  Once a plan is made the intervention occurs in a safe place, usually someone’s home where the individual will feel safe and issues are confronted and mediated by the specialist.  A successful intervention results in the individual agreeing to seek help through a treatment program, and that plan will have been made in advance.

Transportation services can be used with the intervention services to help get the individual from the intervention to a treatment center and they can also be used when transporting individuals from other facilities or hospitals to a treatment center.  Transportation services for substance abuse can be very useful to keep individuals safe and to “talk them down” from trying to get out of treatment.  Once the individuals get to the treatment facility through the use of professional transportation services, they are less likely to want to leave.
